About Us

About

ORCA is a trainee research network which focuses on multicentre audit and research. It was established in 2018 and has grown to a membership of over 100 members. Our work is focused on areas related to Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery.  See our projects and portfolio for more details on our past and present work.

FOUNDING TEAM

In 2019, after a number of false starts and witnessing a groundswell in collaborative research, attempts were made to start a regional collaborative in the East of England.

Some said it couldn't be done. At a high powered meeting in Bill's in Cambridge the Founding Committee took it upon themselves to make it so.... and ORCA was excogitated.

Much of the work on this website and ethos of ORCA is based on the groundwork of those pioneers.

BY TRAINEES FOR TRAINEES

We are a network of orthopaedic trainees. That means the interests of our trainees are at the centre of what we do.

PROJECT SELECTION

We aim to support all project proposals. All project ideas are reviewed by the committee and then developed in partnership with the project lead. When all details are in place the project is released to the network.

NATIONAL AND EXTERNAL PROJECTS

We aim to support all national projects and external projects from other collaboratives that are of relevance to our members.

MEETINGS

We hold an annual ORCA Research Methodology Day and hold monthly meetings with the meeting to ensure appropriate progress with the projects that we are involved with.

ELECTIONS

The committee is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. All places including the chair are available to stand for.

SENIOR MENTORS

ORCA has a number of associated senior researchers who provide guidance and support to its members, details below. If you would like to offer your expertise please contact us.
